Flour - Vegan food shopping



 
This is the THIRD EPISODE in a series of videos that has been created by the Veggie Channel the web-tv, together with Nancy Dong from the association of Sfizi di Natura. The idea of this clip is to show how it is possible to shop properly while learning how to recognizing ingredients that are good for our bodies, without any use of animal products or its derivatives.

Nancy will show you both the nutritional and ethical values of various foods, providing the proper information so you can make conscious choices while shopping.

Nancy goes on a shopping excursion inside an organic supermarket in Bologna; with a clear and friendly manner, she explains the technique of how to wisely choose the foods, beverages and all that you need to prepare your vegan meals.

In this third episode, Nancy talks about flours. The flour most universally used is wheat flour, but has been found to be the cause of gluten intolerances and even celiac disease. It would be best to consume less of it or even avoid it altogether.

There are many other flour alternatives such as spelt, rice, buckwheat, green lentils, millet, corn, chestnuts, chickpeas etc.

All of these flours can be used to make delicious desserts, pancakes, polenta, veggie meat balls and burgers etc.

In the other episodes the theme will be about various legumes, grains, fruits, vegetables, dried fruits, as well as tofu, plant-base milks, piadines (a type of tortillia) and crostini, etc.
